Early 2011 Heisman Odds

It’s only been a little over a month since Auburn defeated Oregon to finish the 2010 college football season, but college football betting is already in full swing for the 2011 season.
Last week we brought you the early sportsbook odds for the 2011 National Championship. Now we’ll turn our attention to the 2011 Heisman race, which will likely be a whole lot different than last season’s.
Following the departure of Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy, the 2010 Heisman race was wide open. A new class of stars emerged as players like Denard Robinson, LaMichael James, Andrew Luck, and Cam Newton all became household names.
Three of those players will be back for 2011 and as a result, this season Heisman race will likely have familiar names leading the way from start to finish.
Here’s the early odds for 2011 as well as a few thoughts:
- Andrew Luck, Stanford: +300
- Denard Robinson, Michigan: +500
- Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina: +500
- LaMichael James, Oregon: +600
- Landry Jones, Oklahoma: +600
- Kellen Moore, Boise State: +800
- Justin Blackmon, Oklahoma State: +1000
- Trent Richardson, Alabama: +1200
- Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma: +1200
- Knile Davis, Arkansas: +1500
Andrew Luck as the front-runner is no surprise. Neither is LaMichael James’ presence near the top.
Denard Robinson’s place as second seems high. His role is undefined as of yet and it’s unlikely that Brady Hoke’s offense will allow him to put up the video game like numbers that Rich Rod’s did.
Marcus Lattimore is a stud, but Trent Richardson should be higher on this list. Richardson is likely the best running back in the country.
Looking for a good value bet? USC quarterback Matt Barkley is +3000. Heisman folks like USC quarterbacks and Barkley could emerge as a top tier QB the same way Jimmy Clausen did in ’09; a player who entered college with similarly high expectations.
