2010 College Fantasy Football Tight End Rankings

Finding college fantasy football value at the tight end position is tough because so many factors go into a tight end’s success that they don’t control. Similar to wide receivers, offensive production for tight ends is generally 100% dependent on the success of a team passing game.

Mobile quarterbacks tend to force tight ends to block, leaving them unable to catch passes and produce meaningful fantasy stats. On the other side, many of the spread offenses utilize 4 and 5 wide receiver sets that don’t feature tight ends.  The result of this is teams that run pro style offenses seem to utilize their tight ends the most, because they use them for both blocking and pass catching, and typically have them on the field for the majority of snaps.

With that in mind, the number one rated fantasy tight end in college football this season is Lance Kendricks from Wisconsin.  He is next the long line of Badger Tight Ends that include Garrett Graham and Travis Beckum.  Despite Graham’s presence a year ago, Kendricks hauled in 29 catches for 356 yards and 3 scores.  He also rushed 7 times for 102 yards illustrating how the typically methodical Badger offense relies on Kendricks for his playmaking abilities.
