2011 College Fantasy Football Defense Rankings
While it’s often a valuable strategy to identify and target non AQ conference players for the skill positions, defense and special teams tend to be dominated by major conferences. Smaller schools often implement gimmicky offenses that put up a lot of points and tend to view defense as a secondary importance. Conversely, the defenses of big time programs tend to see a boost in the early part of the season playing non AQ schools, and often play a more controlled, pro style type of football that keeps their over/unders below 60.
Our rankings reflect this point of view, only two non-AQs made the list. The number one team is Alabama. Nick Saban’s teams are known for producing defensive studs and this year’s unit is no different. Dont’a Hightower and Mark Barron passed up the NFL to come back and lead a unit that returns starters at most key positions.
