Madden NFL 2010 Demo Review
Editor’s Note: Another killer football video game review from our brother DuBBZ, this time about Madden NFL 10. Because we all know you can’t get enough of DuBBZ’s commentary, we highly suggest checking out his SportingNews.com Sports Blog, Warning Track Power, where he drops knowledge and some dead accurate opinion on all aspects of sport. A quality read, no doubt about it. The Sporting News is lucky to have a casual blogger like him on their site.

The demo for EA Sports Madden 10 was released recently. It’s hard to get a feel for the overall quality of the game by playing the demo but you do get a limited preview of how the game play will be different. As usual, your given the option of playing as either of last year’s Super Bowl teams, the Cardinals and Steelers. Now for my thoughts.
For starters, the game speed has been slowed down considerably. This will really seem like a big deal if you have been playing NCAA Football 10 the last couple weeks like I have. I found it hard to adapt to the speed with both teams, but once I got used to it, I always able to toss the rock around quite nicely with Warner. Larry Fitzgerald is amazing. Throw high, he will go get it.
Also, the new fumble feature is exciting. On some fumbles you are given the opportunity to fight in a scrum for possesion of the ball. This adds a new element to the game that I found entertaining. Also, it makes it so you have some control over whether you regain posession of the ball following a fumble instead of it being completely chance which was often the case in previous years.
Aestetically, the game is outstanding. The cut scenes are nice and the player’s likenesses are of a high quality, even for a demo. You are playing on the Super Bowl field and the atmosphere is good. Lots of flashing bulbs. The change in game speed adds to the visuals as the game appears closer to what you’re used to seeing on television.
The only issue with the demo was a glitch where the wrong team would celebrate the outcome of challenges. I predict that this will be fixed before the release. Overall, the demo shows a lot of promise for the Madden franchise, as it starts to settle into its own on the next gen consoles.
