College Quarterback Rankings For 2009 Fantasy Football

The debate rolls on over who the top quarterback is in college football heading into the 2009 season. Most of the debate centers around three players: ‘07 Heisman winner Tim Tebow, ‘08 Heisman winner Sam Bradford, and Texas gunslinger Colt McCoy.

Each of these quarterbacks is great in his own right. However, In college fantasy football, neither of these three tops the list of quarterbacks heading into this season. Keenum racked up over 5200 yards and scored 51 TDs in 2008. As a junior, we fully expect him to bring you a college fantasy football national championship.

Check out our debut top 30 college football quarterback rankings in college fantasy football as you prepare for your draft this season.

In college fantasy football, every 4 years or so new names and faces inherit instant fantasy value due to the systems they play in. This year, here are three players to watch as you prepare for your 2009 draft.

  • Taylor Potts, Texas Tech: Potts will take over under center for the most productive passing offense in college football. While Graham Harrell had a prolific college football career, would it be realistic to expect Potts to approach Harrell’s numbers in his first year as a starter? If so, over 4000 yards and 35+ touchdowns seems possible.
  • Blaine Gabbert, Missouri: This sophomore takes over for the departed Chase Daniel in another high-octane Big 12 offense. Daniel put up over 3500 yards and 28 TDs his first full season as a starter – also his sophomore year. Gabbert is missing the QB-friendly weapon Daniel relied on heavily as a junior and senior (Jeremy Maclin). But with his pedigree and high expectations, conservative estimates of 3000 yards and 20+ TDs sounds feasible for Gabbert. He makes a great selection as a QB2 in college fantasy football.
  • Aaron Corp, USC: Corp is in a QB battle with Mitch Mustain and Matt Barkley for the starting job at SC, but Pete Carroll has named him the starter heading into fall practice. Corp is a redshirt sophomore, but the high expectations for Corp in fantasy football come from the growing legacy of stud fantasy football quarterbacks at SC. Unlike most recent QBs at Southern Cal, however, Corp is mobile. The possibilities are high for this guy in 2009, assuming he remains the starter.
