Thursday’s College Fantasy Player to Watch: Brandon Tate
Rutgers has a set of talented college fantasy football players in quarterback Mike Teel and wideout Tiquan Underwood. But the most exciting player on the field in tonight’s contest might be return specialist Brandon Tate of UNC.
The senior racked up over 1700 all purpose yards last season and scored 6 touchdowns. They didn’t take the field last weekend, but in week 1 against McNeese State, Tate had 397 all purpose yards and 2 touchdowns on only 11 touches – 4 catches, 3 rushes, 3 punt returns, and 1 kickoff return. His numbers were good for 18 fantasy points in week 1 (according to CBSSports.com).
Tate is only owned in 8 percent of college fantasy football leagues, and his personal value is rather limited because CBSSports doesn’t count return yards in its stats for individual players. There’s no doubt, however, that he might be the most exciting player on the field tonight.
If you are looking for a deep sleeper to stock on your bench, pick him up. Tate needs more looks and touches, but he is a legitimate big play gamebreaker – he averaged 19.2 yards per catch last season.
Tate finished his junior season as the ACC all-time leader in kickoff returns and yards. Led the conference with 147.1 all purpose yards per game last season.
